Resources

Understanding where to turn once you or a loved one has been diagnosed can be overwhelming. There are many resources available to help you make sense of the disease and the journey to come.

The Resource Directory lists dementia-related resources in Los Angeles County.

Your loved one with memory loss has a high risk of wandering and becoming lost. The MedicAlert Foundation provides protection through a national emergency response service for people living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia who may be at risk for wandering.

Asset protection, advance directives, power of attorney, and conservatorships are very important issues to consider when planning for your future and making plans for care. It is wise to consult with attorneys, financial planners, or other specialists to help you with your legal and financial needs.

If you are still working, memory loss and other symptoms of MCI or dementia will eventually affect your work. You may not feel ready for retirement, but your diagnosis will eventually make your job too difficult to do.

The course of the disease is different for everyone which is why it is so important to focus on maintaining the highest quality of life possible.
